We are delighted to announce a brandnew activity group designed for anyone who has ever
wanted to create their own movies, film short stories, capture family memories, or simply
explore the magic of visual storytelling.
The Movie & Video Group – A New Creative Adventure
The aim of the Movie & Video Group is simple and exciting: to help members learn the basics
of movie making and video editing using the tools they already have.
Whether you own a video camera, a digital camera, a smartphone, or even a drone, this group
will show you how to turn everyday moments into engaging, polished videos.
The group will also train members to produce their own videos using smartphones and other
everyday devices, proving that you don’t need expensive equipment to create something
brilliant.
What You’ll Learn
 Moviemaking basics — framing, lighting, storytelling, shot types
 Video editing from scratch to advanced level — from simple trimming to multilayer
editing, colour grading, transitions, titles, and effects
 Sound & music production — adding narration, improving audio quality, syncing music,
and creating atmosphere
 Using your own devices — smartphones, digital cameras, video cameras, drones
 Creative filming techniques — slowmotion, timelapse, panning, tracking
 Safe and responsible drone filming — rules, etiquette, and best practice
This group welcomes complete beginners, curious experimenters, and experienced video
producers alike.
Special Projects – Bringing Madeley to Life
As the group develops, we will undertake special video projects local to our area, giving
members the chance to work together on creative, meaningful productions. These may include:
 Script writing
 Filming with cameras, smartphones, and drones
 Editing full video projects with sound, music, and titles
 Showcasing local stories, events, and places
Completed videos may be shared on the Madeley u3a website, helping to promote our
organisation, celebrate our creativity, and enhance our appeal to new members.

Sessions will be friendly, handson, and relaxed. No technical experience is required — just
curiosity and a willingness to try something new. You’ll learn at your own pace, supported by
fellow members who enjoy creativity, humour, and shared discovery.
