Exploring the Countryside with Madeley and District u3a!
At present, our U3A offers a delightful variety of five walks each month, catering to different interests and fitness levels. Here is an overview of our walking programme:
Local Walks from the Madeley Centre (1st Tuesday, Steve Hurd 07773 972601 and 4th Wednesday, Mike Stead 01782 750084)
Twice a month, we organize local walks starting from the Madeley Centre. These walks last between 1 to 1.5 hours, covering a distance of 2 to 4 miles, depending on the weather and the season. They provide an excellent opportunity to enjoy the local scenery, get some light exercise and make friends.
Local Walk with Car Sharing (2nd Monday, Janet Smith )
Once a month, we have a local walk that begins from various starting points. Members typically reach these starting points by car sharing, promoting both convenience and camaraderie among participants. This walk is a great way to explore different parts of our area without the hassle of individual transportation.
Betley Walk (2nd Wednesday, Paul Chase 07835 547859)
Another popular walk starts in the picturesque village of Betley. Spanning 4 to 5 miles, this walk allows members to enjoy the charming countryside and the unique character of Betley. It's a wonderful option for those looking for a slightly longer but still easy walk.
Ramble (3rd Wednesday, Steve Hurd 07773 972601)
The fourth walk of the month is a ramble, which covers a distance of 5 to 6 miles. These rambles often involve a drive of up to an hour to some of the most beautiful and varied landscapes, including the Sandstone Hills of Cheshire, the Staffordshire Moorlands and Lakes, and Llangollen. These rambles are ideal for those seeking a more challenging and adventurous walking experience.
Drop of a Hat Walks
We also propose to run some walks of various lengths and locations. These will be announced at short notice once we have an idea of the weather and leaders’ availability.
Details of all walks are sent out via email. So, please ensure you register your interest by giving the relevant coordinator your email.
A call for walk leaders and car sharers
As our dedicated walk leaders grow older, the walks have become shorter. However, with new and younger members joining U3A, there may be an interest in longer and faster walks. We are looking for enthusiastic members who are capable of walking further and faster.
If you have the enthusiasm and the stamina to lead an occasional walk, we would love to hear from you. Your involvement can help us continue offering diverse and exciting walking experiences for our members.
Additionally, we are also experiencing a shortage of members willing to provide cars for car sharing. Car sharing is a crucial aspect of our walking programme as it makes it easier for members to reach various starting points and fosters a sense of community.
If you are willing to lead walks and/or offer your car for car sharing, please get in touch via the Walks Contact Enquiry form.
Your participation and support can make a significant difference in maintaining and enhancing our walking programme.
Join us in exploring the natural beauty of our surroundings and contribute to the vibrant spirit of U3A walks!
