Why do we need to complete a risk assessment? Madeley u3a benefits from insurance cover provided by the central u3a. Risk Assessments are associated with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. While this does not apply to u3as as members are not at work, the insurance company expects u3as to take reasonable precautions through risk assessment checklists and they use these as a basis of any claims made. If a member were injured, our insurance provider would ask for the completed risk assessment to be able to prove how the risk was identified.  Pro Forma Risk Assessments are provided for Group Co-ordinators for standard internal (i.e. at The Madeley Centre) or external activities, based on pro-forma provided by central u3a. Individual activity pro-forma can be provided where standard forms are not appropriate. Our Governance Committee Member can be contacted by email on Governance for any guidance required. Completed forms should be sent to the Madeley u3a Secretary, with Group-Co-ordinators retaining a copy.
